Site Name Description

Big Rock Located in Calgary, Alberta, Big Rock began producing the Pale Ale in June of 1986. The kick off for their Pale Ale coincided with a strike at the big breweries. The only beer available during a very hot summer was Big Rock. Big Rock brewed 24 hours a day to meet the sudden demand and all of the employees donned their rubber boots to get that beer ready and delivered.
Big Rock Chop & Brew House Big Rock Chop House brews and presents five standard brews and one seasonal. Tours of the premises available on request. They do not distribute in bottles, but you can drop by and get a growler.
Brewery Ommegang According to their website, Ommegang is the only Brewery in America dedicated to producing all bottle-conditioned Belgian style ales. Cooperstown, New York, thought of more often as the home to America's favorite pastime, was once the center of a bustling hop economy. Brewery Ommegang was built on the foundation of one of Otsego county's largest hop farm.

Big screen T.V.'s keep you up to date with all of your local sports teams.
Dragonmead Brewery In Warren, Michigan - Dragonmead brews 50 beers and always has 37 of their brews on tap. Plans are to make and sell mead, too (in keeping with the name) but there is red tape to get through for licensing. This will make them the first craft meadery in Michigan and one of very few in the United States.
Founder's Brewing Company On the banks of the Grand River, just north of the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, Founder's specializes in hand-crafted ales and lagers, each has its own distinct personality to explore. The taproom presents a view of the brewery while you taste their good beer.
Frankenmuth Brewery The historic Frankenmuth Brewery was first built in 1862, and operated as one of Michigan’s largest breweries until it was destroyed by a tornado in 1996. The current building was constructed in 2003, but remnants of the old brewery are on display throughout.    This brewery was instrumental in my learning about and appreciating beers which were a cut above the watery stuff that was typical of American beer when I was young.
Harpoon Brewery "We invite all of you to visit our Boston brewery, where it all began, and our new facility in Windsor, Vermont. You will see a commitment to brewing excellence and receive a warm greeting. Please visit us during one of our seasonal brewery events, which have become quite famous in the more than ten years we have held them."

Jasper Ridge Brewery House beers include Ropes Golden Wheat, the Jasper Lyte Lager, Red Earth Pale Ale, Jasper Brown Ale, Raspberry Wheat and Gallagher's Irish Stout. They also carry a variety of seasonal beers.  This was our favorite beer on the great Upper Penninsula Pub Crawl.
Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales Jolly Pumpkin

This brewery offers wonderful belgian ales with a decidedly american influence using open fermentation and maturation in oak casks.  From first sight of the amusing and beautiful labels to the last sight of the belgian lace in the glass, these beers are a delight to the eye, nose and tongue.  Do yourself a big favor - check them out!

My short article about a tour of the brewery is here.

Kalamazoo Brewing Company "Larry Bell founded Kalamazoo Brewing Company out of his homebrew supply shop brewing with a 15 gallon soup kettle in 1985. Today his brewery is known as one of the premier craft breweries in the nation." (I am very fond of these beers)
Kraftbrau Brewery, Inc. Another brewry in K'zoo - with live music several times a week - the beer is pretty damned good, too.

Leopold Bros of Ann Arbor "Two brothers, one a German-educated brewer and the other an environmental engineer, set out to create the world's first environmentally sustainable brewery. In so doing, they hoped to quench the thirsts of today's beer drinkers without limiting the ability of future generations to do the same."
Michigan Brewers Guild The Michigan Brewer's Guild is a non-profit corporation whose mission is the unification of Michigan's brewing community and to increase sales of Michigan brewed beer through promotions, marketing, public awareness and consumer education; and to monitor and ensure a healthy beer industry within the state. Their website is, unfortunately, about half finished.
Michigan Brewing Company This fine brewery near Webberville, MI makes some damned good beer. The current topic of discussion on the website and in the taproom is the use of plastic bottles. It sounds nasty, using plastic for bottling beer, but I have had a few of these and find them entirely satisfactory. If you are in the area, give them a try - otherwise, visit the well-designed website.
Motor City Brewing Works This microbrewery is across the street from the Traffic Jam, their brown ale and porter are favorites at better Detroit watering holes.
New Belgium Brewing Company This Colorado company is making Belgian style beers here in the USofA. They have a very attractive website and you can get a free screensaver!
New Holland Brewing Company Founded in 1996 by owners Jason Spaulding and Brett VanderKamp, the New Holland Brewing Company brewed it's first batch in June of 1997. The Company goal was to brew hand crafted beer that would be unique to West Michigan, something that had not been done since before prohibition.
Portsmouth Brewery Named after a tiny coastal island, this microbrewery produces a family of high-quality specialty beers: Shoals Pale Ale, Old Brown Dog, Portsmouth Lager and Robust Porter, distributed in kegs & bottles throughout New England.
Quay Street Brewing Company Sierra Nevada Brewery In Port Huron, Michigan, Quay Street is the first brewery website I have visited at which they offer their yeast for homebrewers: "we are glad to provide you with fresh yeast to assist in your home brewing projects. Our charge is five dollars (U.S.) per quart. Call ahead to see what we currently have growing in our fermenters. We can have up to four different isolated active strains; however, normally we average two. You bring in a clean quart container and we'll do the rest. No more worries about long lag times :-)
The Redhook Ale Brewery, Inc Redhook has three locations, two in Washington and one in New Hampshire.
Sierra Nevada Brewery Sierra Nevada Brewery Located in Chico, California, the Sierra Nevada Brewery, founded in 1985, is one of the early players in the craft brewing scene. Their Bigfoot Ale is notorious and their highly hopped Pale Ale is one of the defining examples of the american pale ale style.
Spoetzl Brewery Home of Shiner Beer - Made in Shiner, Texas and distributed throughout the southern half of the US, this beer is well worth a taste. Though not available in my neck of the woods, I enjoyed both their Bock and their 'Summer Stock' (a Kölsch) on a recent trip to that end of the world. Well done, folks! The website is well-designed and sparkles, just like the beer.  (thanks to Stephen 'Chris' Heinemeier for correcting my erroneous entry!)
Stoney Creek Brewing Company Their sparse website tells very little about the brewery but it is pleasing to the eye.
Tahquamenon Falls Brewing Company This unique brewpub is actually located in the Tahquamenon Falls State Park. They provide a better food than your average park restaurant as well as fresh brewed beer and root beer.

Traffic Jam The first Brew Pub in Michigan. Ben Edwards, the owner of this establishment was instrumental in getting the law that effectively outlawed brewpubs in Michigan repealed. The Traffic Jam was a restaurant long before it was a brewpub, and regularly collects awards for its fine bread and cheeses. In case it isn't obvious, this is one of my favorite places to eat and drink.
The Vierling Restaurant and Marquette Harbor Brewery In Dec. 1995, the Vierling became one of Michigan’s first brewpubs with the addition of a five barrel micro-brewing system. The brew equipment, direct from Budapest, Hungary is configured to produce some of the finest ales and lagers in 155 gallon hand-crafted batches. The relatively small sized batches of beer insures a fast product turn-over which enables the Vierling to serve the freshest beer possible with a multitude of varieties.
Virgin Islands Brewery Virgin Islands Brewing Co. was established in 1996 on the island of St Croix. It is the only brewery producing beer in the Virgin Islands.  They make only two beers - Blackbeard Ale and Foxy's Lager.  One wonders why they do not make a beer called Davy Jones' Lager.
Yuengling "America's oldest brewery - Since 1829"  The brewery currently distributes its products in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.
